| Photos for fun Discuss 4 July...I'm not pleased with how these turned out at all. Note to self: 15mm is far too wide for fireworks ... |

Re: 4 July
I reckon that these are quite good of their type, especially the last one. I am not so keen on the red sky in No. 1 but I do not think I have ever seen a firework picture that really does justice to the actual show.
By the way what was the event

Re: 4 July
Alderson, West Virginia, 4th of July celebration. There were 2 displays going on, ground and arial. That firework was red, and it lit up the smoke from the ground display. The whole sky in the area turned that shade of red.
This was my first attempt at fireworks. A lot of it was playing with my shutter delay (bulb setting + no remote = miserable), using my hat as a black-card, and trying to keep my son from wrenching on the tripod. Had I known I was going to end up so far away from the show, I would have brought a longer lens, but I'd anticipated being much closer, so all I had with me was my fisheye.

Re: 4 July
For a first attempt with no remote shutter release and fighting off a child at the same time you have done a good job. Don't be so hard on yourself
![]() ![]() Just darkened the sky a touch, increased saturation and sharpened up the shot. HTH

Re: 4 July
I'd agree that they're better than you obviously think they are! Steve's pimp looks pretty good too!

Re: 4 July
Glad you guys like them, here's one I didn't crop:
![]() And this one is just demonstrating how the exposure overlap is supposed to work to another guy there taking pictures who had even less of a clue than I did. I was smart, a little anyway, and brought a bottle of clue musk. ![]() On the MKIII, I'll have to box it up and send it to Markulous for him to write a proper review. But for starters, the shutter speed allows me to catch things that I otherwise wouldn't have. I can't upload the shot I'm talking about though.. 5 img/day limit and posting just after midnight.. bah. Anyway, it's nice and heavy.. fits well in my hands, and I don't feel like I'm going to break it if I look at it wrong. I haven't had the opportunity to use it as much as I would like; it's turning out to be a very busy summer and finding even 10 minutes for myself is very trying. |

Re: 4 July
More fireworks tomorrow night. I'm going to use a longer lens, and try to get closer.
