Doddy, it could be the weather, your processing or just me, but do these shots lack a bit of the saturation and punch of your usual shots? The DOF or rather the lack of it, is great, but every time I use a non IS lens for moving subjects or in low light, I'm forcibly reminded what a real boon it is. The lens looks great but I wouldn't be in a rush to part with your 100-400L if I were you.

I think it's mostly the weather, the first half hour was quite sunny, then it clouded over and got a nice boring white sky.

Bummer! Don't you just hate those blank skies? BUT... a blank sky like that is a gift for the lasso tool. That shot is a cracker just lacking a background. I might have to have a play with it.

The picture, the picture!!!!

It's a bit jaggie at this size to do a real top job, but the original is well worth spending some time on.

Image/selective colour/
Choose white and change sliders to desired colour....
A little easier but don't know how effective.
No sorry, would alter his helmet being white.

But you could mask that out Ken and still do it your way.

Just thinking if you went to the bother of masking, then you could have any sky as the background. Sorry not thinking...of course just mask the helmet.

No. I selected an area of blue sky, copied it and pasted it as a new layer over the wheel just a small square basically, which covered the whole of the wheel. Then Layers/ Properties and reduced the opacity of the new layer so I could see the spokes and wheel. Used the eraser to remove the blue where necessary to let the wheels and spokes show through. Combined (flattened) layers when done.

A nice blue sky with whispy clouds would be better, but a lot trickier - which is why I chose a plain one.
