Arbor Low Stone Circle - Snow

Arbor Low is said to be the finest Stone Age 'henge' monument in the North of England. 46 large and 13 smaller stones, arranged in a circle with a small group in the centre. All the stones are lying flat, whether originally so or pushed over later - One theory is by early Christians to 'de-sanctify' the site

Because they're all flat, it's difficult to really see properly tho' there is a raised embankment around the edge which gives some perspective. Set on top of a hill there's a good long view even if there isn't much in the way of elevations to see

Taken yesterday morning - advantage being that it's only a mile or so away

Very good Markulous. Looks to be a very atmospheric place. I will go to Castlerigg for you. Only 20 mins drive from home.

Re: Arbor Low Stone Circle - Snow

Nice set
,
I prefer No. 1 as it shows the whole of the circle and that was the title. I do not like the foreground shadows and farm in the background for 3. The farm takes away the feeling of remoteness that 1 has.

No. 2 is a cracking picture of a rock but it could be any rock. It is not obvious it is part of the circle.

BTW what is wrong with iso 200. Your camera cannot be that noisy

LOL! Don't know anywhere else that has those stones in those positions - you could apply that argument to Stonehenge (even Castlerigg!)

Canon 350D - which, I have to say, is rather noisy!

Re: Arbor Low Stone Circle - Snow

LOL! Platforms off!

Actually, I was careful when I turned up that I didn't go tramping all over the place, so I got my shots of 'clean' snow before getting in amongst the stones. I hard that someone was there later that day trying to get photos but by then it was snowing again!
