The biggest problem with the LA is to determine the right degree to apply. I think this will come with experience, but in the meantime you will have to indulge me - and keep the feedback coming!
As the preview window in LA is so small (although you can enlarge the image) I've started to go OTT in a layer, then reduce the opacity to try to get more control, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to work with it. I'm wondering if doing this you loose the fine detail and then you apply too much LA to get any effect.
