Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

Something a little different for me

Went to RAF Coningsby to see the BBMF, heres a couple pics, not particularly great, but was interesting to see them, and the Typhoon Eurofighters at the same airbase !!!!

All taken on the 20D with the 17-40 using the built in flash !

All those images and nothing more than a nose of the lancaster

the spitfire is a beautiful plane, seeing them up close and personal is a marvel.

I was totally in awe on a recent trip down to the RAF museum at hendon the other month.

The tail gunner wasn't the only cramped area. The cockpit is a shoulder to shoulder affair too.

That combined with very low temps for hours on end is a testiment to what those brave people went through even before they started being shot at.

Yeah, we had a tour by a guy who was in the tail gunner seat ! They had 8 to 10 hours in there, couldnt wear a parachute as they didnt have room, didnt have heating either, and when you are at 20000 feet, temps are pretty chilly ! Certainly gives you a new respect for these people !

Nice pics there - always interesting to see these bits of our history, but its even better to see something a little closer than usual
