Big Fish
Here's the first one from my visit to Bournemouth Oceanarium a few days ago. He was a big fella! This is straight out of the camera; tried tweaking for clearer detail, but no marked improvement, so decided best left as is. Exif (lost in raw-jpg conversion): D50, 50mm 1.8 @ 1.8mm, 1/6 sec, ISO 200, matrix metering, no flash. Widest aperture + no flash due to low light but through glass (doh).
Remembering that this was taken through glass + water, and that he was on the move, and that I had to use a wide aperture because of low light indoors - thus slow shutter speed - to avoid using flash because of the glass <Charlotte stops for air> what d'you think? All comments/pimps welcome ![]() Here's johnny ... ![]()

Re: Big Fish
LOL stupot
![]() I was a bit silly not taking Mr. Tripod; if I'd thought about it, I'd have realised what settings I'd be shooting with but, tut tut, I hardly ever use my tripod - same old story, it's a pain to lug around - so not in the habit of taking it with me BUT it could've made all the difference here ![]() Assuming viewers will make allowances for the shooting conditions (low light, glass, water, movement) the only thing I think is any good is the composition. It quite appeals to me, but others may see it differently? |

Re: Big Fish
Tricky shots to get, as you've found! And tripods aren't always a help: "You can't use that here"
You might want to try leaning against glass to provide a bit of support tho' @1/6th even then there might be some movement. Personally, think you're better off changing the ISO to allow a better speed and DOF - better to get noise which can sometimes be rectified than movement/shallow DOF which can't! |

As you say, I could've increased ISO + I think a bit of noise wouldn't have shown up too badly as this is mainly dark tones, but I didn't think of that at the time It was a family outing + I was conscious of holding the others up, so couldn't faff about too much.Quote:
