BTCC Media Day

A link to some of my photo's.
http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/show...hp?tid/711117/
Some were taken using shutter priority (1/250) on my Panasonic DMC-FZ5. Seemed to start off ok but then the photos were coming up washed out. The only way I could get colour back to normal was adjust shutter speed to 1/400 sometimes 1/600 but then no blurred background and car wheels were at a standstill. What caused the washed out photos. ISO setting was constantly set at 400. In the end I resorted to taking photos on auto Sport setting again. Any tips for next time?

'Washed out' might mean over exposed. 400 iso is quite fast plus you are outdoors in a lot of light. It may be your camera cannot close the iris (aperture) down enough to prevent too much light coming in when you are on shutter priority at 1/250th. there is no exif in the pictures so i cannot see the settings.

Try lowering the iso. If you are still getting over exposure and want to keep that shutter speed there may be a ND filter available to cut down the light.

I have just looked at some of the pictures and don't see anything that screams washed out to me, however some more details would be helpful, especially shutterspeeds. It is always adviced to use the lowest ISO possible to get the shutter speeds/f stop that you require. The higher the ISO the more noise in your pictures and generally that is not adviced. Why were you shooting at ISO400?

Thanks for feedback so far, here is an example of a washed out photo.
http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/atta...p?attid/16428/
This would have been taken at 1/250 with zoom at 3x so about 105mm. ISO was set at 400. I must admit the washout did seem to occur when the sun got brighter but it hadn't been exactly dull beforehand. Sadly I accidently deleted all the photos I took before the washout occured. (fatal to use two different cameras that require different methods to delete photos I'm afraid, I hit delete all instead of delete multi and they were gone .
The reason behind me using ISO400 was because that was the speed of film I used to use in my 35mm cameras when taking photos of the BTCC tests in the 90's. What sort of ISO should I be using and will this work on auto Sport or panning shots too. I certainly seemed to have better success this time than last week with the DTM's.

It wasn't too busy people wise plenty of room to take photos, nearly got blown over several times by the high winds when lining up shots at paddock hill though. Plenty of action all day, just wish I'd realised they had laxed security on getting into the pitlane and paddock though. I used to get some great shots back in the 90's.

I decided to try a few arty shots of the cars coming round Paddock bend hence the tilted photos, only problem is the angle plus the lines of the grandstand in the background makes it look to me as though the sides of the photo are not parallel and looking at it too long makes me feel queazy.

Lower ISO for bright sunny days, slightly higher ISO for overcast/cloud and higher still for complete darkness.
