Burnley Balloon Festival

Had a trip out a couple of weeks ago with my wife and kids, and Steve from these very forums.

The evening started off quite disappointing, what with being charged £3.00 each to get in, then finding out the rides for my kids were nothing short of extortionate. £2.50 for FIVE revolutions on a merry go round type thing.
£2.00 for one portion of chips, cooked from frozen (Asda Smartprice, I could tell )

After haemorraghing just shy of £20.00 in the first half an hour, I was very very disappointed at their extortionism.

Then we tucked ourselves in next to the fence for something about a bear....no show.

Then we had the bike show, as it started to spit a bit of rain.
Unfortunately, they had deliberately waited for it to go darker before they started, which didn't bode well for the photography.
After that, my wife needed to change the littleuns nappy, so after standing there with my legs spread wide, camera gear all over, trying to keep her place against the fence until she got back, the balloon show started.

While it was pleasing to watch and listen to, unfortunately, it didn't offer much photographically, except for the fireworks, which were behind us So I had to keep turning round to catch them, and thats why everything was handheld.

I know they're not the best, but they aint too bad for what I had at my disposal

Regards

Oops, nearly forgot the photos.

That sounds just like the Llangollen one. The sunsets behind the hills and then the balloons go up. Its in a valley too which doesn't help. It also stars the Over-the-top motorcyle team.

I've got the Bristol Balloon festival this weekend, so I'm going to try and get there for the morning launches.

Well don't get too excited, I've only had my camera for a week or two.

Nope, I did, but the scene was something like this

?????
^
-----
ME
XXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXX

* * * *

?=Balloons
^ My tripod with camera on it
--- Fence
Me
XXXXX = Lots of people
**** The fireworks.

As there were loads of people behind me it was impractical of me turn remove my tripod from the safety of the other side of the fence and plonk it behind me, that and the fact that there was no room.
It would have been nice of them to warn us the fireworks would be behind us though, so we only found out at the last minute when they started going off, so I literally had to whipe the camera off the tripod, turn round and hope for the best...lol
