butterfly with the 70-200/ spiderweb with 100mm
got these at the weekend, big butterfly and the 70-200 was on so tried it to see what happened. Last one of the web really needed a bit more DOF. Fairly sure it was with the 100mm a couple of weeks ago.

Your comments are true but I think they are great photos none the less.
Have you tried adding saturation to the flutterby to bring out its colours? ![]() |

Really nice shots, The first one would have been better if you had managed to keep a little more detail in the flower petals but great shot nonetheless.

Nice the three of them.
The last one (web) I'm ok with the DOF, seems very nice to me. And agree with SammyC, maybe adding some saturation will help on the colors, but they are great photos. Thanks for sharing. |

And they're noisy I've actually noticed in the first one there's an annoying bit bottom left where the flower petals aren't "joined" up. It also looks really blown out, probably too much so Sammy, the colours are pretty much true to life, but I'll see what they come up like with a bit of boost ![]() |

Nice pics Dodders.
I'd go back to the RAW file and duplicate it. Then process one file for the flutterby and one for that white flower head and combine the two pics via layers in PS.That level of noise is perfectly acceptable to me. |

The web shot is great isn't it? Doddy uses the light very well in these types of shots. The same shot with his 17-40L would have been magical with rounder oof highights due to the extra diaphragm blades.

On my monitor the colours seem naturally saturated without looking artifical or "velvia". The spiders web shot is really good IMHO - spot on sharpness and DOF, and the bokeh and colour are cracking. I bought a Sigma 105mm EX DG macro yesterday so hopefully I'll have time over the next few days to find a web myself.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Adrian, really interested in seeing the results from your sigma. I'm giving some serious thought to trading in the canon for the sigma 150 to get a bit more working distance. I know it's a different lens from the one you've bought but the results are said to be very comparable. |
