Re: Canal Boats

Ray, have you considered getting yourself a hotshoe spirit level? It is small and just slips into the hotshoe and lets you see when the camera is perfectly level. You do often seem to struggle with getting the camera straight. I know you can do it afterwards in Photoshop as well but it's just that your pics are getting better and better, with the one small weakness being the need for rotation of some of them.

Lovely composition here, shame about the pylon but that's the way it goes. You could clone it out if you've got the patience and I have to say the effort would be worthwhile, it's a lovely picture

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Canal Boats

Here's the image with the pylon and cables cloned out Ray. I've also rotated it slightly. See what you think

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Canal Boats

The level is for when using a tripod really Ray.

If you want a point to look at to compare in these two shots, look at the dark lines of the ripples in the water, you'll see they are definitely slanted in the first shot but true horizontal in the 2nd.

As a useful hint Ray, try using the little squares inside your viewfinder as markers to fix on points in your picture so you can see if they are level or not. For example, if you have a horizon you want straight, look at the left and right and put the line at the same point relative to your little squares. This will help you get the shots square

Cheers,
Rob
