Castles on Grand Turk Island
![]() ![]() Well, OK, I exaggerated a bit. In the tropics, we have jolly few castles, monasteries or palaces. But in the Caribbean Islands, there are abundant houses of interest. I like the color image but I was messing about with mono, and liked the tonal quality of this as well. What do you think? skip |

Re: Castles on Grand Turk Island
The colour one works, there does not seem to be enough contrast in the mono.

Re: Castles on Grand Turk Island
The red and yellow against the blue works well for me tho' I do find the comp a little uninspiring! Sorry! Think more of a closeup or just one end of the hut would work better

Re: Castles on Grand Turk Island
Yeh, I gotta say when you have a perfect balance of the three primary colours, what is the point in going mono? I love the colours as they are. Yes, I agree the angle taken coule be a bit more imaginative but having said that it does give the picture a sense of balance and I rather like the fact we can see the whole building and the sea either side of it. Not quite sure why there seems to be some lines just above and parallel to the roof top.
With regards the mono though, I had a go at converting to mono using my favourite Lab Mode method and this gave a lot more contrast to the picture. Maybe too much but I only did it to see what we could get in there. I did not use any curves for this at all, just used 2 extra layers blended with Overlay mode, the first at 100% opacity and the second at 35% opacity. Just a different option to compare. See what you think. Cheers, Rob ![]()

Re: Castles on Grand Turk Island
The colour one takes it out of the 2, the mono could be better if more contrast was included similar to the one Rob has created. I think Markulous has a valid point with altering the crop/framing too. It does look like you live in a beautiful part of the world there though. I have family around there but have never visited, maybe one day.

Re: Castles on Grand Turk Island
Don't know why the lines over the roof....in the original there were none, so I guess that they were in the conversion to jpeg or resizing.
I like the color as well, but I love mono, and I think Robs mono is quite good. I specifially took the picture this way to give a rather flat effect....and I succeeded ![]() |
