Re: Caterpillar Flower
Nice image, and nice flower, but would have liked to see it more from the front, as the selective focus renders a little too much OOF for my liking, and makes it look more like a 'bokeh' image.

Re: Caterpillar Flower
Rather agree with Jack - the righthand third would be sufficient, I think, or more DOF. Nicely isolated from the BG

Re: Caterpillar Flower
DOF is really critical in macro photography. Remember with such short distances from your lens to subject, you have a smaller DOF to work with than what you may be accustomed to. Don't be afraid to stop down to f22 even if it means a 20 second exposure. Just use a tripod and a bit of patience. Also try to align your subject and your "film plane" - by that I mean postion your camera in a way that the flower stem is parallel to your camera body. What you are trying to do is have as much of your subject the same distance from your camera as possible so that you keep as much of the subject as possible within the "in focus" range (depth of field).

Re: Caterpillar Flower
thanks for comment , disagree to certain degree with jmitchell as Bokeh hasnt a total out of focus area its a more of oof look to give viewer an interest in bg its a soft oof bg with Bokeh ,then again realize that will come down to the understaning of Bokeh to each person. But agree the oof is of nice blurred colour.
Thanks for detail comment nichpr . . I always well 99percent of time use tripod.Like the way you have explained about the positioning of the camera. Will be out practicing again and taking all the advice with me . Really appreciate in depth comments. once again thanks for your thoughts and comments.
