Cathedral Rape

After a couple of attempts earlier in the week hand holding - managed to go back with tripod and waded into the field of oilseed rape - worth the sneezes - and used f40 to try and get more depth of field. NW side of Ely Cathedral lit by late afternoon sun (most of the day in shadow) about a 1.5miles away. Still like mid-summer and this is about 3-4 weeks early flowering.

Re: Cathedral Rape

TBH Fangman I can't see where the focal point is ... cathedral is not in sharp focus, nor is the rape field ... your lens seems to have focused on the clouds + your nice long DoF got lost You've got nice bright colour in the flowers, but it loses its impact against such a pale sky. Not sure I like seeing a half-obliterated cathedral either. Sorry I couldn't be kinder with my comment, as it sounds like you worked really hard to get this, but it's hard to tell from the image what you were trying to portray

Re: Cathedral Rape

Thanks - there was a haze about all week - this was about as good as it got here in the Fens. As you travel down from the village to Ely the "ship of the Fens" grows out of the ground - further on you get the sprawl of new build - hundreds of them! I know it is an emotive view - I get a better one for the garden but no rape field - next year I
will have to persuade the farmer to plant the right field!

Re: Cathedral Rape

Very nice shot, but the colors are a bit to pale I wrote a tutorial about 2 days ago. How to color boost your images, I tried it with your image, I also did some shapening to the cathedral, and some lens blurr to the Fens, and this is what I came out with...

Hope you like it...

Maybe a frame would have been nice but I just wanted to try the color boost on it to see what it would look like..

Couldn't resist!

Gave it a 'circular polariser' treatment and adjusted curves

Re: Cathedral Rape

Thanks guys - they both make a much more dramatic image - I must have a play before I do any printing of the image.

Re: Cathedral Rape

The issue with the sharpness might be down to the F40 aperture. Even full frame stuff is going to suffer from diffraction at that level, and diffraction leads to softish images.
