Chatsworth 'Beyond Limits' 6 x 200k

Went to Chatsworth's 'Beyond Limits' Sotheby Sculpture exhibition. Didn't buy any!

Weather was overcast and drizzly (luckily later on, so got to see most of the sculptures)

1. Had to get one with the house in the BG

2. Possibly my favourite pic - for the simplicity of the sculpture against the flowers

3. Pleased with this - if only as they're are no people in it (there was a good turnout, so some shots I had to wait a little - or compose differently!)

4. Well, it was autumn!

5. Table and Chair

6. The only angle where I didn't have to get the disappointing sky as a backdrop!

A fabulous set of photographs Mark. Particulary like No. 2 for (as you said) it's simplicity, No. 3 for the great backdrop and No. 4 for the colours.

Re: Chatsworth 'Beyond Limits' 6 x 200k

I completely agree with you Mark, second picture stands out for me. Not a lover myself of this modern sculpture stuff, I guess I'm a bit of a traditionalist on that score so forgive me being a bit of a Phillistine on this front. But the simplicity of that second one works very nicely and they way you have thrown the flowers so far out of focus that they are virtually coloured blobs is very effective with the sharpness of the crips yellow 'fork' shape.

I think the LOVE one is well composed but I think that would have benefitted greatly from a really slow exposure to give the water a really soft dreamy quality. Ok, a bit cliched I admit but I'm an old romantic at heart according to my much better half :o)

No comments on the yellow monstrosity with the house in the background, it just jars with me completely but only because I hate the sculpture, nothing to do with your photograph!

The table and chair is slightly out of focus as the camera has selected the leaves to be sharp. i am assuming it was the AF and not your choice but certainly I feel the stone in sharp focus with the gorgeous leaves just soft but providing wonderful contrast would be lovely.

Looks like you had a good day out even if the weathr wasn't all that great and the people meant a lot of waiting about. Still, that's what this game is all about I guess <g>

To sum up: your work is much better than the sculptors IMHO :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Chatsworth 'Beyond Limits' 6 x 200k

Thanks Tigress and Rob. Was a good day, despite the weather's attempt to get the better!

Must admit to being a bit of a lover of modern art/sculpture/architecture and especially in juxtaposition with the old, so like the 1st - but it's let down by the sky

Not a great silky milky waterfaller so tend to go with what suits - and rather liked the faster shutter for this

Selected the reflection in Table and Chair for focus, so was my choice, but take your point

'Fraid I am very much in the shadow of such wonderful sculptors but very much appreciate both your sentiment and all your comments!

Ah, I see what you were doing on the table and chair one now Mark, hadn't clicked you were focusing on the reflection in the stone. It all becomes clear to me now as the Hubble Telescope said when they sent up a Specsavers astronaut to solve his myopic vision :o)

Cheers,
Rob
