TBH, it's just that left front throwing me. As you say it's all good fun and I do enjoy seeing different ideas

to have the 1st can sharp. then the 2nd oof and the 3rd sharp.. its not supposed to work . i know that sound stupid but i hope you get the idea i was trying for....

i understand what your saying about loosein the can on the left.but thats the whole idea the reason it does not work as a shot is that it shoudnt.... its a shot you can not get lol "can" not get

I like the idea of having the one in front in focus the one at the back in focus with a middle one out of focus. It pulls you up sharp (no pun intended). There's a moment when you try to resolve how it can be like that before accepting it for what it is.

It is the can on the right on its side that I would loose it is a bit too much for me, a bit like having a joke explained to me after Iv'e got it.

i thought it made it look less like one can done several times. the image had all 4 cans used at the same time.

It's just the way I read the photo. (Or the way my mind works.) With just the three cans it is the seeming impossibility of getting the middle one out of focus that grabs my attention. There is the conflict of thoughts.

Is it a straight photo? If so How? No it can't be. It's a composite. But how would I do it as a straight photo? Before I even start to think about how I'd do it in PS.

The initial idea is enough to grab my attention and I feel that it needs simplicity.

The fourth can doesn't fit. Should it be sharper than the middle one or more blurred to continue the theme? I can't make my mind up about it and it distracts me from the force of the paradox you have created.

Just an idea to try;
It is possible to take two photos with three cans on a table say. Focus on different cans for each photo and leave the middle one blured. Then mix the two together afterwards. That way you could get some convincing suroundings. Of course a tripod is essential.

In camera bluring is always more convincing. Scale is a bit of a problem as changing focus alters the size of the image.

I have tried similar techniques in a garden scene focusing on up to 4 different parts of a scene and fading from one to the other in an AV. Not quite the same as your still photo but a simiar idea.
