Re: Controlling the Anger

A good set that has captured the power and general feeling of the dam. The muddy, turbulent water adds to the atmosphere.

#2 does it for me. #1 is OK, but as a record shot. It does not have the same impact. #3 has impact in bucketfuls, but is too close to give context. #2 is just right.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Controlling the Anger

Dam good picures! My favourite is No 3 because I prefere the impact to the context.
Thank you.

Re: Controlling the Anger

I agree with Graham #2 floats my boat (pun intended ) Here's why:

#1 Each subject in the shot in taking up equal proportions within the frame, except the water, but it's just muddy water. I don't know what the main subject is s'posed to be, + I don't find the image terribly interesting (as Graham said, it's a simple record shot).

#2 Has got great foreground interest; muddy, restless water thrashing about against the dam wall; a good perspective on the dam wall; most of all, it has drama. This is by far the most arresting image of the 3 IMHO. I think there is room for improvement tho' - you could bring out more detail (tonal range) in the water, the wall + the sky on PC to really make this image rock Oh, and I think the image needs a slight clockwise rotation. You've really got a winning composition here

#3 My comments on #1 apply here too, i.e. I'm not sure what I should be looking at, as you have 3 subjects of equal importance (i.e. fighting for attention), i.e. building, dam wall + water, but none of them seems terribly interesting to me TBH, as there's no perspective etc. + basically nothing to hold the eye.
