Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH
![]() With one damaged leg that I posted a week or so back. But look at the damage round the beak. ![]() Damage looks mainly on the right side below the eye ![]() Found minced sunflower a temptation to come down to the table. ![]() Still manages the fat balls. ![]() Close up of the injuries - or is it parasite damage. It still takes seed up to a branch and attacks it there as it's usual habit, but was surprised today to see the state of it as it has been a regular visitor for the past week or so. Unfortunately it does not look good for survival much longer.

Re: Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
no idea what happend to this bird but i don't like those photos at all - because of what i see. birds are fantastic creatures and we used to see them in full beauty, not like this. i'm sorry for that bird - maybe he was fighting for love or something but still, it's not for me.

Re: Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
I did put a warning! I am sad for this little fellow as it had been doing very well and possibly as injured and having to take more risks was getting a regular visitor and wiling to put up with my movements behind the camera.

Re: Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
As you say he is probably not long for this world
which is always sad. We normally just do not see this harder side of nature. No one has ever said life was easy of guranteed safe. Is it 60 - 70 % of young birds do not survive the first year ?.He is better of than the collared dove whose feathers were scattered all over my lawn when I opened the curtains this morning. Local fox I guess. |

Re: Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
Oh poor little chap, he's really not looking very well at all.
Could be parasite damage - that raw area looks pretty concentrated. His general health looks to be suffering too. I did wonder if he'd survived an attack of somesort (Sparrowhawk perhaps)? Glad he is still able to feed but things don't bode well for his long term do they... As a regular to your feeders, hopefully you'll be able to to keep us informed of his progress/plight. |

Re: Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
Looking again I was wondering if this is just dried blood. Possibly from a fight with another blue it or it flew into something. The eye and bill seem OK. In that case the birds may be reasonably OK and will recover. From my very limited experiance with injured birds if is it serious they die quickly as they rapidly run out of energy if they have a problem feeding

Re: Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
Lots of birds lose feathers when rearing young, though this does look like either a disease, or perhaps being blown into a wall by the strong winds we've had recently.
Poor guy. |

Re: Corageous Blue Tit BLOOD WARNNG!
Poor little guy, maybe he had a lucky escape from a cat. I think it's 50/50 as to his survival - although he looks pretty bad, he's sorting himself out isn't he (getting food + getting about).
Please keep us informed Fangman |
