Re: couple more
The first two are to your normally high standard, however in this case I think number three really stands out. The blackness frames that window and sets off the colours very nicely. A cracking shot, TFS

Re: couple more
The first one is super.
I would rotate it clockwise a bit though. |

Re: couple more
I like the fountain in mono better. My feeling about a different crop was to try to offcenter the fountain. I don't care for this one because the curved structure above and the doorway to the left detract.
Your inside shots hit the mark. skip |

Re: couple more
This fountain really is a lovely shot Fi.
I thought I'd have a look at what a selective mono would be like but wasn't keen so I tried the method I spoke to you about before, reducing the saturation of the BG, not back to mono but enough to really push it back and let the fountain project forward. I hope you like it ![]() I like the Bible shot though it's a touch over-cooked at the top half of the pages. The staind-glass window is well enough taken, just doesn't really hit me that strongly. I think I'd preferthere to be a bit stronger light from the other side, it just feels a tiny bit flat, mainly in the bottom area. I do like the way you have used the reflected light on the top edge of the pews and posts to work as a lead in line, very effective. Good work there lass ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: couple more
Skip, ordinarily I would have used the Pen tool for this one but I decided to go the easy route... I just copied to two layers, the bottom one I desaturated and lightened, the top layer I erased the BG by hand. Was just as quick as a pen selection, just ran around the edge with a small brush to erase a margine and then used a big brush to erase the rest.
Cheers, Rob |

Re: couple more
Drastically off topic - but
I was taught never ever to use the eraser tool because you lose pixels. However, I suppose that by erasing in a layer, all the pixels are preserved, right? skip |

Re: couple more
well all your original pixels will be preserved cos all you are actually erasing is the duplicated layer.. hense the reason to work on a second layer so your original isnt touched,,........ i think! lol

Re: couple more
You aren't losing pixels because the image is still exactly the same dimensions and resolution as it was before. You only lose pixels when you crop, not when you erase. In actual fact, when you erase you are not actually erasing at all, you are making those pixels transparent or semi transparent (depending on the opacity and brush used) so they are revealing what is underneath. If you were to have nothing underneath, when you flatten or save the image as a jpeg it will convert those areas to white.
I hope I've answered the question properly but the long and short of it is 'no pixels were hurt in the making of this picture' Cheers, Rob Last edited by Rob Barron; 16-02-2007 at 15:14. |

Re: couple more
Wonderful stainglass, looked for more color glow in and around the center at first sight, The fountain with the background lightened is great, a pretty good picture, now in another dimention. I also feel that the eraser is an under used tool. Don't tell anyone, but it was the first tool I really used the most of. Infact, I thought of it when I saw Rob's frost & leaves he just posted, fastest tool alive to cut out leaves. Thanks for alook at the stained glass, not much of it around like that here.
