couple of still hoverflys

Couple from yesterday,still some hoverflys on the go but not a lot else, bug seasons coming to an end

I'd say these are maybe just a tiny bit soft, anyone else think that, they're not helped by the resizing

Not a true 1:1 macro. I have that same lens, and I get good but not fantastic results from it. I have just ordered a Sigma 105mm Macro....

1st is excellent and the second outstanding, the third is really good but overshadowed by the first two.

None of them are slighty soft as you have hinted.

Your insect macro work is always a pleasure to view.

get some tubes, they'd work well with the 75-300 and the loss of a stop or two wouldn't really matter as you're looking for F10 and smaller anyway.
