Crowden Falls
Well with seeing Fi's and Chikadee's lovely waterfall shots I had a look back at some I did last year.
I spent a day walking around Kinder Scout which has some small falls but when I finally got home I wasn't particularly happy with any of them........not sure what it is but something is not quite sitting right with me Here is one of them so see what you think........

Re: Crowden Falls
{cue image of P-E blundering around the peat hags of Kinder!
}This is a good image, tho' I'd be tempted to burn back the FG rocks which dominate. Nice to see a sky effectively exposed too!

Re: Crowden Falls
I think this is basically a good image in terms of composition and exposure. I think the spoilers are the 'boring' skyline/sky and the muddy colour of the water between the rocks and the falls.

Re: Crowden Falls
Blundering around would be the perfect word to use Mark......I can't read maps and just carry one for show
I know what you mean about the sky Graham and rather than crop it, it would have been better if I could have composed the shot not to include the sky in the first place

Re: Crowden Falls
Agree with that, but looking at the shot, I guess that would have been difficullt or impossible. I think you need the top of the falls in the composition, and unless a different angle could give you a different skyline.......

Re: Crowden Falls
As I say I spent several hours stripped to my boxers working my way around the falls trying different angles and orientations.

Re: Crowden Falls
hehehehe.......... sorry but i just had an image in my mind there........... noooooooooooo lol im not saying!
anyway, i like both images..the first one i think would have been fabulous had u got down onto your knees ( especially in your boxers) and taken it from a lower angle....... i do agree i think its the huge contrast of the browns in the water to the dark of the rock face that makes it seem at odds with itself. but over all tremendous shots! Re: Crowden Falls
Behave Fi
I'm not sure if I was on my knees or not for the first one ........I know I was for some of the shots. The dark walls is one of the things I think that bothers me......plus it seems a bit messy. Out of approx 80 shots that day I think I've edited one which is in my gallery and that was an experiment with the Lucasart plugin

Re: Crowden Falls
Well I'd better not to say anything about boxers or you being on your knees P-E
so mooooooooooving on ... I do like these images, although the first one is marred by the muddy water + bleak sky (as already said), but I like the composition, the falls themselves + the FG rocks. The 2nd one, I think there's too much to look at, i.e. the foliage on the LHS is clamouring with the falls for attention. Other than that, nice detail + excellent exposure in them both |

Re: Crowden Falls
actually i like the muddy water look, it gives it a unique atmasophere ,but personal think its the wate that takes it away a bit ,ie would of had more of longer shutter speed or brought f stop down bit
think thats it where as more of slower water pace hopefully you will understand what iam trying to say Do like the difference with the sky , alot of ours are impossible to see much of a sky due to where they are due to scrub surrounding them. Must say am really impressed with bottom of falls where waterfall water actually hits the bottom water great effect with the two.
