Re: The Cuillins

Nice sky and nice Skye. Best viewed from the Talisker distillery.

That must have been taken on 'Calendar Day' when it stops raining for a wee while and all the photographers flock there to take shots for tourist brochures and calendars. Unfortunately I've always got the date wrong.

Well,I must have been lucky. The past 3 visits I've had on Skye I have always had some decent weather.I usually take my Holidays late September as I recall from spending my teens and twenties in Ballachulish that there is a fair chance of some Autumn sunshine and beautiful colours then.

Re: The Cuillins

Brilliant colours and great exposure. The only complaint I'd have is the 'UV haze' type effect that looks to have blue-ified the mountains in the background, but now it's digital, you can easily correct that!

EDIT: Like this, hope you don't mind!

Re: The Cuillins

Beautiful scene, very nice place. Yes, I'd like a touch of FG interest and the neautralised colours in Jack's version make a positive difference but it's a lovely shot and a place I'd love to visit.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: The Cuillins

Duplicated the layer, adjusted the colour balance away from blue, and you can sort of tell what looks right, then layer mask and just painted over everything except the mountains. Glad you like it

Re: The Cuillins

Here's a 'quick and dirty' fix which is somewhere between the two.

Use the Magic Wand tool to select the mountains, then the lasso tool to get the bits it missed. Change the RGB of the selection - deduct a lot of blue and add green and some red. Alter the histogram/levels to increase the contrast of the selection, and also increase saturation.

P.S. I think Jack's is better.

The 'tricks' demonstrated by Silkstone and JMitchell on this photo maybe worth transferring to the Tutorials/Tips section ?.
