Digital Brush

Just leafing through febs copy of digital pro when I saw a peice on Susi Lawson, she basically takes photo's and then using Corel Painter turns them into paintings.
Now at first I thought hang on isnt that like PS when you click once and it does it for you

But as I read on she actually paints by hand ontop of the photo

so I had to have a go, only in gimp and no where near the result with a wobbly hand and little patience but heres a first go and its quite addictive so think Im going to pick a brighter image and spend some proper time on it.

I always got impatient when drawing for real so this isnt any different, but I'm liking the effect. its basically brush at 30% opacity then colour dropper tool to get the colour from the image before painting over the top

I musta bin bored eh!

Re: Digital Brush

I have a feeling the mouth is a bit bright on the original, maybe even some burnt out bits on the right as we are looking at her teeth. This is making it difficult with the artistic working you have done. The rest works fine, interesting idea and the person concerned would I am sure love to have a copy. These look good when printed onto canvas-textured paper or even onto canvas prints.

Jack's version is all very artistic and fine but it shows little photographic content as it now looks just like a painting, albeit an interesting one. Not sure I go for it much BUT I wouldn't go for it if it was a painting either as it just wouldn't be to my taste so my dislike is not based on anything you've done, just on my own taste which is of course always a personal thing.

Cheers,
Rob
