Dryden Tower
This is an older slide and another one that marked for me a noticeable improvement on what went before
.Not a brilliant photo no,but at the time so satisfying and looked good when projected. We all remember those photos, don't we? .I was using an Olympus 0M2n and Tokina 25-50 zoom.I wish I still had that kit!!.Not that I would use it that often because I am a digital convert.Anyway, this is the sharing section and I thought I'd share this as a 'moment' when I began to believe that I was getting somewhere at last!! .

Re: Dryden Tower
Great colour and contrast but part of me keeps urging the tower a tad more to the left.

Re: Dryden Tower
This image gives me the impression that the sky was not the original sky.

Well.it's not the original sky in the sense that after I re-sized it for the web I selected the sky and ran it through the free edition of Noise Ninja. It has 'softened' it a bit right enough but thats the sky that came with the tower at the time

Re: Dryden Tower
water there is still too much noice, and this photo is not sharp. sharpness should be on that tower but it's not there. but composition is good.

in my opinion this does not have excess noise for it's intended use ie to be shown on the web.The slide from which it is a scan is fine, and was also sharp enough to enter in Camera Club comp [It never did very well but not through being unsharp/grainy ].I am also under no illusion as to it's 'artistic' merits. In any case, that was not the point of my posting it here and I thought I had made that obvious by my choice of words in the original post. What happened is that the outline of the tower and the sky is very noticeable which led me to believe it was layered in there. But why was it so noisy if theres plenty of light? You didn't use a low ISO? What happened? |

.The slide is,at a guess, about 2/3stop more saturated than this [and looks fine on a viewer/projected] and my scanner does not like having to lighten exposures. That and reducing it from 29MB to 250kb has undeniably degraded the quality,no question about it. But are we not missing the point here ?.This picture is about a moment we all,I'm sure, had when we were starting out. When we were able to say "yes, this is better than I have done up till now" [as stated previously] .At least that is what I had intended .

Re: Dryden Tower
Hey Water, nice picture, I love the sky especially the way it extends to the base of the tower. I think you captured it beautifully. Mike

Re: Dryden Tower
I like the shot, you've caught the tower on a nice day with the great blue sky and interesting clouds.
I too scan slides in and can agree with you that they can lose the sharpness of the original scan when you resize it etc for the web. |

Re: Dryden Tower
I find this image very easy to look at. I think it is the big chunks of primary colors with no distractions. I can understand why you felt the way you did when you shot it. I am still waiting for that moment. It will be posted when I have it though!

Re: Dryden Tower
Cheers guys and a wee bit of info about this place:
I Googled "Dryden Tower" and now know why I took this with a low viewpoint [my memory is cr*p! ].The base of this tower has an ugly barbed wire fence around and is,alas, structurally unsafe. It sits atop a small hill between Bilston and Loanhead just south of Edinburgh and was simply a Victorian Folly!
