Duotone...love it or hate it

Experimenting with duotone.

There's something I really like about it.

Saved the colour version in a layer, created a duplicate and converted to b&w using channel mixer, selective colour (black and white channels), curves adjustment then created layer mask on bw layer and painted through to restore colour pebbles.

Created a saturation adjustment layer and ticked the 'colourize' box and moved the hue slider back and forth until I found the colour I liked.

You either love duotone or you hate it!

good shot, though the ring thing at the bottom is distracting, well processed though!

As someone with an anti b&w rep, I like it too.

Feels like the pebbles should be in focus to me.

oh nice one Bachs. I really like it. I think the pebbles being OOF works well. Shows more emphasis on the vase, nice detail.

Agreed.
In the original full colour shot it didn't matter but by colourizing the pebbles I've led the eye to them so they should be the focus point.

I originally went for the textures on the vase.

I hate it when it's done badly, just for the sake of it, and I've been guilty of it in the past.
You've been quite subtle and it looks good, just as has already been said it would have been even better if the focus had been on the pebbles

I like it Bachs, nicely processed but have to agree with the others, I think having the coloured stone things more in focus might improve the shot.
Great work.
