Arrow Duxford : Show us your Chopper!

While going through some shots from earlier in the year I came across a Duxford folder that I'd hardly touched at the time, I havn't a clue why but better late than never I guess...

Anyway, as it's been a while since I've posted up any shots on the forum so I thought I'd fire a few in here over the next few days from the summer's Duxford Air Show to see what you think... as always C & C is welcome.

Perhaps someone can let me know what model of helicopter this is?... As for processing - CS3 HDR - Colour boost added - Dynamic range added with Velvia Vision plug-in - Slight gradient overlay added - Sharpened, frame added and resized... shot is not cropped.

Processing on this one is pretty much the same as above except no HDR was used, the shot is also quite heavily cropped.

Thanks for looking!

Other shots from the day can be found here -

Duxford : Black Hawk Down
Duxford : Escape to Victory

Re: Duxford : Show us your Chopper!

Nicely captured, with excellent use of shutter speed etc

Looks like a Westland Scout to me

Interesting processing.........and if you wouldn'y have said I would never have guessed HDR,Velvia etc

Re: Duxford : Show us your Chopper!

Excellent shutter speed, not easy to get a nice sharp body and just the right amount of blur. Good colour saturation and sharpness. Only thing I'd like to see is a little bit more space in front as the very tip of the rotor blur has been cropped.

cheers

Dan

Thanks P-E

I've only used the HDR to match the exposure's of the helicopter and the sky and just the dynamic range aspect of the Velvia plug-in, I wanted to keep the close up shots as accurate as possible... however I'm about to post up a shot into the Critique forum that has a bit more extreme processing

Thanks Dan

It was my 1st time photographing a proper air show and unfortunately the majority of the results showed it, I struggled with getting a good balance between the available light, shutter speed and showing movement for most of the day, but when it did come together I was very happy with the results.

I think your right about the composition, a little bit of room to the left would be better, unfortunately the others in the sequence (despite having a bit more room) arn't as sharp as this one due to movement... oh well, something to remember for next time

Easy enough to stick on some space on that Scout - and worth it as it's a great shot

Nice view on the Chinook and again you've got a great shutter. I'd be tempted to rotate it that degree to horizontal - not really necessary but think it'll benefit. You don't so much see or hear them but feel them (I used to live in Wiltshire and they used to fly very close and very low - tooth rattling!)

I suppose it might be not be too hard to add the space, although I think the blade area might be a bit tricky... I'll definitely give it a go though!

I tried rotating the Chinook and it's and I found it to be a bit of 6 of one, half a dozen of the other... due to this I went with this angle as I felt it made it look a little more dynamic

I love the sound of them, standing in the crowd you could feel the shock waves from the blades hitting you as it flew past... Although I don't know how I'd feel about having to live with it on a daily basis!

Thanks again everyone
