A few from the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales

Haven't posted in a while so here's a few thats been sat around for a bit. One thing i struggle with is capturing the views from mountains and large hills i seem to always be at the top during really bad weather or during really bright and sunny days where the light is very harsh.

These first two were taken from a recent hike up Helvellyn in the Lake District, I'm not sure what other people will make of them. To me of course they remind me of a hard but worth while climb and lovelly weather during the day.

The next two are from the Ingleton Waterfall Trail in Yorkshire.

Last is of the River Wharfe in Yorkshire

Honest C & C please

Cheers
Stu

Re: A few from the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales

I had a wonderful time trekking round the Ingleton Falls trail Stu. Did you do the full walk up past Pecca Falls to Thornton Force, along through two farms and back via Beezley Triple Falls and the Baxenghyll Gorge? It is hard work but it's a fantastic journey with photo opportunities by the score.

First short here is a bit too dark so doesn't appeal but the second one definitely does. Love the way the lake is lit there. The third shot is a little too blurred, the water is blurred but so are the rocks with all their moss and things and I feel they need to be sharp to provide a contrast between the two. Last two are composed well, not much dramtatically but pleasant peaceful pictures so easy on the eye

Cheers,
Rob

I really liked your first one, but thought it could be even better with a little work, so I had a go, I hope you don't mind:

Rob
Yes did the full walk Rob and quite agree it is a fantastic walk. We spent a week renting a cottage just south of Ingleton and did a thorough tour around the dales, including a trek up Ingleborough (which was hard going), Aysgarth falls, Bolton Abbey. Had a day in the Lakes where we climbed Helvellyn which was dam hard going, It didn't help that as i was enduring the never ending climb a guy we passed at the beginning overtook us going back up then passed us again as we were still climbing only to be overtook by him again before we reached the top. He was climbing it four times, training for something, made me feel very unfit . But all in all some stunning English Country side.

Thanks for your Comments Rob personally the more i look at the first and last two shots the more i feel they are lacking something, just didn't quite catch on camera what my eye was seeing. I do however like the third, yes true the image isn't sharp which is deliberate having added some diffusion in PS. Photography is a very subjective art form and different pictures appeal to different people, i do appreciate your comments though as like everyone on here i'm here to learn!

I really like your version Jack you've brought some life into the shot, one of my weaknesses is my PS skills there definitely on the basic side so i sometimes lack the skills to make the most of my shots or as i sometimes do, overcook them its always good to see what others can do and thanks for taking the time

Thanks Stu. I have to admit I kinda went to town with this one....lots of layers masks and things, and 2 gradient overlays (points for guessing where the second one is ), but I'm glad you like it

Re: A few from the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales

#1
Exposure's a bit muddy Stu, but I think Jack's is a bit overcooked (sorry Jack - it's good, but a bit OTT). My other two problems with this one are that there's too much sky + the horizon doesn't belong centrally in this instance I don't think. Perhaps a different crop?

#2
Again too much sky + horizon plonked in the centre. Suggest cropping a couple of inches off the top + also off the LHS. Exposure + colours are good in this one, maybe a bit of levels/curves to brighten it up a bit tho'.

#3
Already commented in your gallery ... Love it This image is about colours + light + texture.

#4
Pleasant enough, but I think it could've been improved if you'd moved your viewpoint slightly left, so that you didn't have bands of greenery along each of the top + bottom edges, which is stifling the creativity of the shot.

#5
I like this, just think it needs rotating clockwise slightly. A levels/curves adjustment to make the sky not the same colour as the water, and increase contrast.

Nice set Stu

Re: A few from the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales

Really like the 1st whereas the 2nd is not nearly so interesting.

Not too sure about #3 - it seems somewhat confusing (maybe crop the top 1/3rd away to simplify?).

Think I'd prefer more use out of the daisies in the 4th (bottom left corner maybe)

Emphasised the light on the hills whilst de-emphasising the lit foreground hill
