First D300 shot

My D300 turned up on Thursday but due to work and other commitments I wasn't able to open the package until lunchtime today!

I'd just unwrapped it when our neighbour came out with her grandaughter so I took a few shots with all the camera settings on default.

First impressions are that it very well built, the buttons and controls are more or less in the same place as the D200 but they have been re-vamped slightly which makes the ergonomics much better. The 51 point AF is fantastic allowing you to place the focus point anywhere you like. I think I'm really going to enjoy this camera.

Allow me to introduce Gracie.....

Well that shot certainly leaps off the proverbial page!
I literally started when I first saw it. Very very clear shot, and great tonal range, well captured too!
Now if only I could afford one (GAAAAAAAAAAAAH!)

I've still got my other D200 and I've decided to keep the D70 for sentimental reasons. The D300 will obviously be my main body and as much as I'd love a D3 it is just too expensive when you take into account that I would not be able to use my 17-55mm on it and therefore have to spend out even more on a 'standard' zoom. I might go for another D300 next year, I've only fired off a few shots with this one and I am seriously impressed so far, it is a big step up from the D200 (which is no slouch) and some of the menu options look very interesting e.g. there appears to be the ability to fine tune the focus to suit each lens thereby correcting any minor front/back focus issues.

I'm looking to utilise the CLS system a bit more in the coming year, I want to get a bit more creative and I think Santa is bringing me the SU-800 which will allow me to control multiple speedlights without using the onboard flash as Commander.

Have you got your D300 on order yet?

Saying that , your initial shot & the example from Vinny in his Nikon D300 Review here, are pretty amazing
