Looks ok - different I have to say but alright non the less

Think I might have preferred to see this in some context though rather than just a section of a vase.

(good camera BTW)

Nice shot and nice colours. Given the geometric shape you're going for there Mike, it would have been better if you'd made sure the vase pattern was square to the camera. What lets it down is that it looks like you've used the Fill Tool to the right of the vase to add the black background and you've got a very ragged edge down the right side of the vase.

What you need to do to tidy up the image is use the paint brush, set very small, to tidy up that right vase edge. You can use the Eye Dropper Tool to select backround and vase colours for the paint brush as required. Once you have a tidy edge, just run down the edge with the Soften Tool to give a more realistic effect.

Nice creative first image post though, and it's definitely worth spending a little time on it to get it right.

Definately a creative image there. Do you have the chance to shoot it again though?
I know I'm a picky person but it seems a little skewiff, in that you would benefit from moving to the left a little bit and reshooting, to make it more symettrical.

Hi Guys

Many thanks for the feedback.

I've now got this camera, the thought of going through the manual again for the 3rd time and coming away with little information doesnt appeal to me.

I've just upgraded from a Nikon Coolpix 4300, so i am a complete novice where iso, f stops and apertures are involved, and i want to be able to make use of all the features, can anyone point me in the direction of any tutorials firstly to know how to use the camera, and then on to tutorials that give me a guide how to set up the camera to shoot good photos? I know all situations vary, but a guide would be a great help.

Many thanks Mike

Obviously reading through these forums is a great source of info.

I also used this back when i started and found it massively helpful for explaining things. It even gives example photos of what each setting does.
