First paid portrait session

I did my first paid portrait shoot yesterday after one of the mums at my sons school asked me to photograph her family, with three kids I didn't think it would be too difficult....

I turned up to see a buffet laid out and for her to tell me the rest of the family would be there shortly, about eighteen of them in total! I t was absolute bedlam, kids running everywhere, some big dogs following them and all the dads getting ****ed. Luckily I'd put in my wide backdrop so at least I was reasonably prepared.

The shoot went quite well and they all seemed to enjoy it. As usual all C & C is welcome.

This first image is Abby who is fostered, unfortunately she has to have a major operation in January to have rods inserted into her spine and it is not known if she will survive - quite a humbling experience.

This is Abby with David who is also fostered:

A few more shots from the day.....

Re: First paid portrait session

Well done really nice set. Are you going to offer them individually, or in set(s)?

You might get some interest for photos for the more distant family if you print off some like the schools phptographers do, with four 10x15s and two 6x8.5s. I think there is a template in PS2 for this.

Re: First paid portrait session

Excellent set with #3 & #4 being the faves for me. WHat's really important is it's clear you had a rapport with the family, as this shows in the relaxed & happy faces. Well done Colin

Re: First paid portrait session

WTG, Hacker. Sounds like you planned ahead a bit and that the ensuing bedlam wasn't a huge detriment.

In the two boys and dog, I don't like the stark white BG, but all else in this series is great, and the BG can be changed easily

A Paid Project. What a cool concept.

Re: First paid portrait session

Having spent much of yesterday trying to get some nice shots of my 5 and 6 year olds for the relatives at Christmas I can really appreciate the excellent job you've done here. Those kids look happy and relaxed which is far more important than the undoubted technical skill you've displayed.

Re: First paid portrait session

Thanks for all the comments! The dog wasn't too bad with regard to slobbering but he was unbelievably clumsy, almost brought my lights down a couple of times!

Skipper, the stark white background was intentional (done in post processing) as I was going for the stark Venture style with this one.

Dabhand, the prints will be sold individually, I took about 150 in total of which around 125 proofs will be given to the family for them to pick out whatever they want, as there were four families there it gives them around 30 shots each to choose from, my thinking is that give them more choice and they might buy more!

They certainly won't buy what they don't see.

Hope it goes well.
