[Hacker]

I was freelancing again yesterday and one of my jobs was to cover Harlow RFC vs Welwyn, a bit of a grudge match but a good one all the same although I didn't have time to see it all due to other jobs, but it made a welcome change to be shooting sport which is something I really enjoy. There was a low winter sun at times and I was constantly changing settings (shutter speed and ISO) which made it challenging at times. Here is a selection of pics, hope you enjoy them and C & C is welcome as always.

Wow, what a superb set Hacker, really great.

I didn't know Jake the Peg with the extra leg played rugby! Look at 5th up from bottom, hilarious :o)

I think the highlight of a great bunch is the first line out shot (2nd picture from top) with the guy's expression and his gumshield looking ready to leave its home! Shame the hand got cropped off but never mind, still a great image.

Great work, really well done.

I am presenting these shots for a bit of a negative lesson.

Several years ago, the Gentlemen of Aspen played the Gentlemen of Vail, and so I grabbed my camera, and knowing nothing about the game, tried to take photos. These are the best of the group.

They suffer mightily because I didn't know the game.
They suffer mightily because my lens wasn't long enough.
They suffer mightily because they weren't framed well, which speaks to the first suffering.

However, for a change, they are pretty sharp

You got in close enough for that second one Skip, so the lens can't have been too short.

Rugby is a game that offers some great shots if you can get the timing right. Both of you have in this case so good shots resulted.

It's also about finding the best angle to take the pics from. You gotta be fit to move up and down the touchline but most people stay in one place and shoot as the opportunities present themselves.

I used to play for West Yorkshire Schoolboys but I hasten to add we are talking a LONG time ago now.... over 30 years ago in fact.... strewth I'm getting old.... and I feel it!
