First shot with 40D - at ISO 3200!

40D arrived this morning, so after fiddling around with some of the settings I tried it at ISO 3200...

That's processed in Bibble with a touch of (built-in) Noise Ninja, but I don't reckon it's too bad. The focus point was in the centre of the frame, and that seems fairly close to right.

Re: First shot with 40D - at ISO 3200!

Well, it seems OK so far. I've only taken a few test shots and it's grey and gloomy outside, but overall the 40D behaves very much like the 30D but with a few extras and, by the look of it, rather better high-ISO performance especially in the shadows.

The 50D will have to be very good indeed to justify twice the price.

Interesting times.

Shooting a wedding with Hoffy, where he used a 30D, he commented on how the 40D shots had better noise control

Re: First shot with 40D - at ISO 3200!

Yes - less chroma noise, although I have the 'High ISO Noise Reduction' set to On at the moment - but not sure if that has any effect on RAW files. Must read the manual.

EDIT - No it doesn't, so it must just be a slightly better sensor/processor.

Re: First shot with 40D - at ISO 3200!

It's a bit fiddly using AF with Live view - having to press the AF-ON button until it focuses, then release it. Why doesn't it release automatically when it has attained focus, and why can't you just half-press the shutter like normal?
