Fledgling Collard Dove
This morning I got in my car to go bird watching when this fledgling collard dove alighted on my windscreen wipers. Eventually it managed to scramble onto the roof. Not wanting to drive off with the bird on the roof I got out to see where it was. At this point the angry parents appeared and started buzzing around me for a short while before alighting on nearby trees. I didn't want to pick it up because this can cause parents to abandon. So I waited and waited and waited. After about 30 minutes I could wait no longer so I gently picked it up, it didn't seem to mind, and placed it high up in a secluded spot where it was safe from cats. I then drove away. When I returned after some two hours there was no sign of either it or its parents. I took the picture with and Ixus 400 at 400 ASA so there is some noise. Have you noticed the birds trade mark?

Re: Fledgling Collard Dove
Well Charlotte, it did fly onto the wipers. I don't think it was hurt. Notice it does not have a collar yet and its length was about 6 inches so it was quite young.
