Fly thing (macro)
Early this morning after dropping the wife off at work, I thought i'd do a spot of gardening....Well, I promissed the wife I would. But first I just had to have a play with the camera. Love this lens and although I haven't used the camera much lately, this lens hasn't been off the camera, it opens up a whole new world. Got loads of shots but I won't bore you with them all now.
Just a couple. aproaching the runway ![]() 3000 eyes can't be wrong (reminds me of the Saint) ![]() Landing gear down Whoops there it is ![]() Auto'd in RS and resized in PS, some cropping....NO other processing. First attempt at manual focus. Last edited by KenCo1964 : 16-08-2005 at 19:15. |

That Sigma is really turning out some stunning results for you guys. A great set of pictures of what was undoubtedly a difficult subject to capture.
Your photography is definately moving forward Ken ![]() |

Great captures Ken.
Its very difficult to get shots of these, as they never seem to stay still when a lens is pointing at them. To me they look over worked at RAW conversion stage. There's a glow around the pollen stems, this is caused when you add to much 'fill light' in RSE, or when the images have been over sharpened. |

Ken I'm afraid I'm going to have to burst your ego and say they're absolutely rubbish.
Can't have you getting a big head, ahead of your time. Need to bring you back down to earth. My cat has thrown up better pictures after eating grass. (I'm kidding really, they're top notch! ). Tripod? Handheld? |

Thanks for all the feedback, These shots were taken with the aid of a tripod, as for a decent one, well it’s just a Vanguard from Argoose :FIcamera0 , I bought it when I used to mess about with my camcorder a few year ago now. I know these very small things are quite nippy and flit about all over the place, although this one had it’s moments I just stuck with it and managed to catch a couple of shots when it got puffed out I think.
MATT. I know what you are saying about the fill light and think it is this that’s giving me the greatest amount of problems. They were only auto’d in RS, resized in PS with the TPF Action. I did have a go at processing them myself but didn’t like the result, (so they must have been really bad). I would be the first to admit that the majority of my pics straight from the camera or pretty poor (very soft and lifeless) and I have tried to rectify this with PS processing, this has helped me find my way round Ps BUT, at the cost of any confidence I had in processing and have certainly lost my way with regards the final image. When all I really need do is go back and take a better shot….. Too tell you the truth, I am very surprised with the response to these pics, as myself I didn’t think they were that special and have seen some stunning macro’s from others on here before which look far better IMO. It really is nice to get such a response, it lifts the confidence a little. It’s nice to be appreciated, all except MARCEL that is :flipoff: . Only joking mate, I know you got your lens cheaper than me :flipoff: , along with everyone else on here who’s bought it :flipoff: , but it really is good value even at the higher price. Saying that I did get a free 28-70, so I’m not complaining. Thanks again. Ken. |

Are you using RSE? Do sharpen in RSE? |

OK mate, don't get despondent. Generally speaking Canon images do tend to come out of the camera a tad soft, certainly they do with the 20D. It's actually no bad thing, many people advocate switching sharpening off in the camera altogether, and deal with it in processing afterwards.
There's so much you can do in RAW processing it's easy to lose sight of what's desirable and what isn't. Shoot some jpegs for a while - give yourself a break from RAW and see if you still get problems. ![]() |
