Fountains at Somerset house

Captured this this afternoon. Tried some longer exposures to get a nice soft water effect, but actually this was the better shot IMO.

Re: Fountains at Somerset house

Didn't have a tri-pod so short exposures worked better today. See below, for not so good image by comparison.

like the second better and I'm amazed that you didn't have to contend with lots of people walking into your shot

Lent on a wall. I read somewhere, the best tripod in the world is the one you have with you.

Well I much prefer the first shot, the light is nice, the globular balls of water hanging in the air really work for me.

Oh, Stupot: I was there for about 20 mins to get those two - people free- shots.

Re: Fountains at Somerset house

I can see why you like #1, but I'm with the others in liking #2.

For me, #1 is incomplete - it does not tell me anything - there is no context, and it leaves me, a bit like the water, hanging in the air.

#2 however does set the scene and the fountains are the clearly defined subject.

Re: Fountains at Somerset house

I like them both although I prefer the compostion of the 2nd, but like the defined water (if that makes sense!) in the 1st.

Re: Fountains at Somerset house

I only prefer the compositoj of the 2nd one, I like the frozen moment of the first one. If the first had the pool as well so we could see the whole thing like the 2nd I would definitely go for that.

I do like the blurred water tstuff but to be honest it is in danger of becoming a bit cliched now. When done well with a lovely interewting water fall cascading over rocky outcrops it is unbeatable but sometimes it os done for the sake of it, almost as if to cover up for other deficiencies in the shot.

Go on, go back and take two shots using the same composition so we can make a proper comparison :o)

Cheers,
Rob

More like these perhaps:

I agree about the blurred water stuff, it seems to be contrived these days. I would go one further and say I don't even like it in waterfall shots. Every magazine is full of milky waterfalls these days.

Just my personal you understand.

Re: Fountains at Somerset house

Much prefer the water as per first (over 'silky milky' which just doesn't suit this subject). And those kids just round it off, with that third shot! Great!

I really like the one with the kids in it as well. It brings back memories and you can see by the expression on her face that she is digging it!
I like the frozen water dropplets personally.
