Garden Fireworks

We usually have a few friends round for fireworks - and keeping with an established tradition everone else in the neighbourhood has better fireworks than us. We got close last year but this time they upped their game.

Anyway my first DSLR firework pictures are the best I have ever taken of fireworks... but they still don't amount to much

Swung the camera for this one... should have done that more

Got any more anyone (not involving nutters with burning tar) ?

I like the first one and last two best!

We used to have fireworks parties too. Last year we set off all the car alarms in my street! But that was when I could afford spend £30+ on a single firework!

I don't think you have done badly at all, first time with a DSLR and the exposures are great, and the pics interesting. You just need bigger and more spectacular subjects.

There is an annual National Firework competition help in Southport every year. It is help over three nights and has two companies competing on each night. They both get up to 30mins to put on a display to music that has to wow the crowds with size, scale beauty and originality. If you want to see the guys that do all the fireworks at big events like the Olympics and the Commonwealth games fight it out for the title then this is the place to go. It really is something else.

Here is one from last years Southport event.

The little specs just visible off to the right at ground level are three articulated lorries to give you an idea of scale, they are hard to see at this size but are clearly visible on the full size print.

those are good I took about 100 at the local display and ended up with absolutely nothing worth keeping.

Main disappontment for me was the lack of colour in the shots. You could see colours looking at the fireworks but they burnt out to white on most of the pictures.

Commercial fireworks probably have a greater intensity of colour.
