Girl with Parasol

I was just messing around trying to run the battery right down before charging it, and on looking at what I'd done, rather liked this one

Not something I would usually do, but I might try some more now. What do you think?

Re: Girl with Parasol

It's a bit dark and moody for my taste but I don't think that detracts from the photo at all, just a personal preference. I would like to see more contrast between the subject and the background but still I think it's a good picture.

Produce some more, I would certainly be interested to see the results.

Re: Girl with Parasol

Thanks for the input Larne

It seems some of us are dark and moody people on here , you will find others of a similar ilk too.

This one - which is a different shot - is perhaps more to your taste. Initially, I did not like it as much as the first one, but I've done a bit of work on it and now find it at least as interesting as the first.

I think there is some potential to do more. I'm getting a bit more interested in these now.

Re: Girl with Parasol

Yes I agree with the comments, I like the shot, very interesting, but if you brightened it up a little, get those greys more near white, then it would be less hard to differentiate the subject and the background.

EDIT: Oops, missed the second shot and comments, but I still prefer the first one, because you can't really tell what it is, whereas the second one could just be OOF

Re: Girl with Parasol

Yep I also prefer the first one. You are left to piece the subject together yourself, which allows for a very personal interpretation of the image. The second one is just an out-of-focus picture of something.

If you were re-doing it I imagine you could use some lighting to blast out and lift the background while retaining the same impression from the subject. It would need to be done right of course or I'll be complaining about too much contrast.

Re: Girl with Parasol

the first image is the one, and i really like it, the second image reveals too much and it loses its appeal, spot on, although this may have started as a technical exercise, it has become something quite nice
