Nice selection Fiona.

Just noticed the surname on the first gravestone (Anderson) will have to check my family tree

Number 5, I like very much. It's a shame about the vapour trail.

Re: Glasgow Necropolis

I have seen some of these before but I like them and they make an interesting collection together.

I am intrigued about Scottish cemeteries as I went round one in Edinburgh taking much the same kind of photos as these and it seems the one I was in is fairly typical. The thing I find peculiar is that they seem to be, and absolutely no disrespect intended here, a real hotchpotch of different stones, sculptures and tombs. There seems to be no sense of order or attempt to keep the place ordered in any way. This might well be because English graveyards tend to be much simpler with headstones and neat rows.

I am not criticising, only recognising a widely differing way of doing things. The thing I did find sad was the number of stones that had been badly defaced and desecrated, something that would still make local newspaper headlines down here. I put a series of those shots along with others showing urban decay in a panel portfolio a couple of years ago which seemed to be well received, despite the statement it was making about our society.

Back to these pictures, I like the treatment you have given them fiona, you've captured more mood than they would have had previously which is testimony to the continued development of your skills.

Cheers,
Rob
