Gravel Rally in Mexico (5 pics)

This rally is very amazing and demanding for the cars, its called "RETO A LAS ALTURAS", in english it is "CHALLENGE TO THE HEIGHTS". This rally is in a mountain called Nevado de Toluca, imagine, the start of the rally is at 3000m from the sea level, and the cars have to go up the mountain at 3500m from the sea level, and then go down this narrow roads.

What do you think about the pictures:

Enjoy!

These are all great pictures that give a sense of the action and location. t looks like one or two of the cars have had off road detours also. Maybe something to try in the future would be to pan with the subject and use a slightly slower shutter speed so as to keep the cars sharp and add motion blur to the background. The fourth picture in this series would have had much more impact from that although it is still a great picture.

Nice shots. Steve's summed up my only real criticism of these shots - you must have used a hell of a fast shutter speed to freeze everything - even the wheels! Nothing 'wrong' with that per say except you do lose the impression of speed which is often a lot of the appeal of this type of shot. A slower shutter speed and panning with the action would have blurred the backround. As it is the cars look a bit like they're bogged down, chucking up the dust. Still nice shots though.

I'm pretty sure I saw a video of this rally once, the terrain is awesome!

Thanks Steve and CT,

I will try to pan and use slower speeds to try doing this effect, actually this was my first rally shots, because almost all the rallys i was behind the wheel, so I have another in two weeks so I will try to do it! Things this years seams that I will not participate in the championship, so, why not, go there and take pictures! hehe

Cool - rally driver eh? 8)

Just have a practice standing by the side of any road and photographing passing cars. It's surprising how quickly they actually pass you! Pick them up in the viewfinder, try to keep them central in the viewfinder and as you press the shutter keep on swinging/panning and sort of follow through after you press the shutter. There's a tendency to stop panning as you press the shutter and you end up with a nice pic of the space where the car was!
