This is Harry, my Father-in-Law. taken last July at his 90th birthday party. Sadly, he died recently, but at least we have the memories.

Re: Harry
Nice portrait + I like the IR effect on the BG
My condolences, Graham. To say that your father-in-law had a good innings, at 90, is a bit of a cliche, but true nontheless. I'm sure you + your wife miss him. However, this photograph is a great way to remember him

Re: Harry
Thanks Charlotte. The BG is just the bushes in the garden. Did did he conversion first, then dupd the BG layer, gave the second layer a dose of gausian blur, then used a mask to reveal the underlying image I wanted to be sharp.

Re: Harry
Great memories. Harry's face has a lot of character. What would happen if you cropped really tightly?

Re: Harry
Condolences to you and your wife, Graham. This is a lovely natural portrait ... he looks like he was a real character.

Re: Harry
I don't like the close crop, Graham ... the original looks like Harry's sitting on a bench (chair, whatever) having a breather, + in that context, the original crop (with space) works well.
Could we see the colour version? |

Spot on, Charlotte. I've printed them for the family, and they both work quite well in that medium. On my monitor, I think the original is best. What do you think Skip? it was your idea to crop. |

Re: Harry
I have to agree that I like the original better. Even though I didn't know Harry, I think that the original gives more of a sense of him.
But ya never know until you try. skip |
