help needed with this image

hi gang
i am trying to change the sky on this picture, it was taken 3 days ago before the snow, but during the preceding rain.
Every time i use the magic wand to highlight the sky, it picks up half of the building too, and i dont know how to de-select the excess selection.

many thanks
stevannie

you could try the magnetic lasso? What is it you are trying to do? If you are adding a new sky you can simply drop the new sky into position and set the layer mode to overlay, then remove any overlapping bits of sky with a layer mask or the eraser tool set to a low opacity

Over-sized image! Just remove the IMG tags Stevannie.

How're you getting on with that sky transplant?

Using Magic wand in CS2, set tolerance 15, make sure theres a tick in anti alias and contiguous that should give a much better selection

hot tip: add a levels adjustment mask first (or any other suitable adjustment layer...curves etc.), pull the sliders right in to boost contrast to make the edges more pronounced.
Make your selection then later discard the layer mask.

not sure what you mean by this, i placed it as a URL as it said, and there are no IMG tags on it just square brackets with URL in(cant seem to show what i mean)

thanks for the tips, i will give it a go tommorow, that is if my computer will stay switched on for long enough without overheating, i will never buy another laptop.

I dunno why we ever bought a laptop - it seemed a good idea at the time, but I could have bought a killer desktop for the same money and got change. We don't really need a laptop anyway we have two decent desktops, Jan's is the faster of the two - a real gaming rig.

The laptop is running 24/7 crunching cancer data, but it just will not die!

I had a dell 1100 up untill the start of this month, it was a great machine, the fan does get a little loud though when it's working.

Whats the load on the processor?
Dell stuff comes loaded with stuff running in the background which will add to the work the cpu and ram have to do.
In all the time i had it, it never gave me a problem......no my current lappy is the inspiron 6000....and that has been a problem with bloatware

I just got a samsung x20 laptop (literally just, it arrived today) i've spent most of the evening stripping it down to what I need .
After a bit I gave up trying to find the uninstall exe for some rubbish and started from scratch, repartioned the hard drive into two bits one for windows and installing progs and one for data just in case a virus hits and I have to wipe the OS to get rid of it. I've finally just finished installing windows xp and all the drivers needed for the touchpad, gfx, sound etc took ages but at least there is no trial software or random samsung videos left clogging everything up. Will install CS2 tomorrow just to laugh it try to run with only 256Mb RAM

I really want a better machine altogether, for some reason this computer has never seemed to be that quick, i am sure my older, less speck desktop was twice as quick, and i want a bigger flat screen, better gfx and certainly a bigger hard drive.
Will have to see what 06' brings
