I'll show you mine...
...if you show me yours.
I'm always amazed to see the difference between before and after shots so I thought I'd share one of mine. This was a grab shot of my nephew and I had no time to consider much of anything. I loved the way he's just staring straight into the camera so I tried my very best to salvage the shot - in a perfect world I would've taken a decent shot to begin with but working with children can be murder Before ![]() After (tried for a cross-processed look) ![]() B/W ![]() Anyone else interested is sharing their efforts?? I'd love to see them.

Re: I'll show you mine...
lovely transformation! i think the second one also is the best the mono is perhaps a little flat. the second one keeps more of the character of the boy .,

Re: I'll show you mine...
Thanks for your comments Gary and Fi, the second one is my favourite as well.
I've loved the cross-processed look for years and I'm delighted that Photoshop allows me the opportunity to mimick the effect without the hassle. I did try it with film once; had to wait ages for it to be sent off to a lab, cost me a fortune and the results were dreadful (more to do with my skills than anything else). |

Re: I'll show you mine...
I'm sorry Victoria, I have to go against the flow, I really dislike the second shot quite strongly. I am not sure if it is because it has made the lad look a bit feminine, sort of made up, or what but I really don't like it at all. I do like the X-pro treatment in the rest of the picture, it is only the face I don't like. I do like the closer crop in the mono and think it would work just as well with the coloured shot though with a touch extra contrast as it would be a bit flat as is.
I love the idea of this thread and will be looking back to see what others do. And I hope more of your own Victoria. Please don't hate me for disliking this one, I love the look on the boy's face, sort of bland but at the same time inquisitive and it works for me. For me, THAT is the picture and so it really doesn't need a whole lot of treatment to make it into one ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: I'll show you mine...
Mono mono mono
It is a tighter crop. I agree with Rob. There is something about the second image that just doesn't sit well with me. Maybe the highlights are too strong, and he loses something in his face. Yes, working with kids is a pain. I got this nifty camera for keeping in my pocket, and then tried to take pictures of my gc. I was soooo not used to the shutter lag, and missed nearly every shot. Even with a dSLR, kids are not easy. So you really did well on this. mono mono mono skip (Dave - do I get rep points for "mono mono mono" x2? )

Re: I'll show you mine...
Thanks for your comments. You are certainly entitled to express your opinions and I promise I don't hate you Rob (hate is such a strong word
)....just kidding. The delay on a compact camera would drive me absolutely insane. I've seen so many people (usually family get-togethers) miss a perfect shot because of it. So....where's yours Rob and Skip?? |
