If you thought photographing children and dogs....
.....was difficult, you want to try chickens!
Last weekend I gave a home to four ex-battery hens. They arrive in a bit of a state, with lots of bald patches. They soon adjust to the free-range life and, hopefully, their feathers will start to grow back. Without wishing to sounds like I'm getting on a bandwagon, battery hens have it pretty rough - living in a cage with not even enough room to turn round, they are treated like egg-producing machines. All because we want cheap food. If you've ever thought about keeping chickens, please give a thought to giving a home to some ex-batts. But you'll need plenty of patience to try and photograph them because they don't stand still very much! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This gives you a bit of idea of the state they get into in a battery cage.....and this is one of the better ones.

Well done for giving them a home angela, poor things, even their wattles are pale. Looks like they will soon be well at home though, their eyes are bright.

lol scraggy hens, good for you for giving them a home.
I left lots of speckled pekins at my parents plus 2 golden pheasants and some others who sadly departed. I love chickens but they can be very mean |

Angela, where in your place do you have an area where you can keep chickens? I mean, I know it's in the middle of the park, but, er....they're chickens!!!
