Incoming missile?

This gives an idea of how fast these finches travel.
Taken at iso 1600 f3.5 1/1000th at high speed mode on the 40D (theoretically 6fps)

Frame 1

Frame 2 - worried starling

It went that way!

The starling though it would be safer at the side but the Goldfinch was not to be put off!

Settling down to feed
All full frame and no processing - just fit image to 800 pixels for uploading. The back end of a starling is on some fat balls in a nearby feeder. Sigma 2.8 70-200mm about seven or eight feet away from camera. Hunger overcame the sleet and rain this afternoon.
