Justwalls
HI all.
I've been looking through recent images for about half an hour now trying to decide what or which I'd like to start with, most of them have been shown somewhere on the net so I decided to go for some work of a different nature that I'd yet to get feedback on. These two shots are taken within house ruins in SE London about a month ago. I'm thinking of providing large framed images, say poster size. I'm considering theses two images. What do you think of them? ![]() ![]() I'd also welcome any tips on favorable processing methods when aiming for larger printed images. ![]() |

Re: Justwalls
What I'm thinking is that these are ripe for a mono conversion!

Re: Justwalls
Something weird with the geometry in both? Or is it an optical illusion (#1 looks like vertical in the middle, #2 looks like window)?

Re: Justwalls
First I have to say your subject is one of my favourites. Ever since we were given 'Dereliction' as a subject when I was doing my City & Guilds many years ago, it has stayed with me.
Second, as a Saahhff London boy myself you have captured what would have been considered a 'Des Res' when I lived there! OK, back to the pics. #1 looks like it was taken through a doorframe. I find the near wall and near central vertical distracting, and I think it might have been better to have stood back and perhaps gone for a portrait shot to get all of the doorframe and fireplace in shot. I like the textures though. #2 works better for me, the only thing being the diagonal thing going out of shot at the top of the frame. I'd be tempted to clone it out. As regards processing, I don't think there is any one way that is better for larger prints or smaller ones, but in shots where colour plays a primary role it might be worth experimenting with saturation levels and even boosting/reducing one colour as well as all colours. Framing and borders are just as important as the picture, so make sure you get this part right too, but only once you have finalised the prints.

Re: Justwalls
I like the second one, and think the colours add to the image, although a mono conversion would be interesting to see.

Re: Justwalls
Hi P-E... I've been surfing around here a little.... Nice to see your old and new work again BTW.
Awesome standard of photography within this forum everyone. Thanks for the comments guys, you like the texture and colors , but not quite so keen on the subject I feel. Useful stuff thanks. Dab, some good tips there, The trouble with this building is its juts not straight anymore, the roof's gone, so have the ceilings and floors, leaving just the walls to sag and wander as the wooden support beams rot away. As requested, both in mono. ![]() Uncropped so you can see the missing floor. ![]() Portrait crop view. ![]() Last edited by bishbosh : 03-10-2007 at 09:33. |
