K9 Agility trials

Haven't posted in a while..... been out shooting for a change

Here are some shots from a dog agility trial - where the dogs race around a course jumping over, crawling through, and zipping through a slalom course.

Even the very smallest get in on the action. This lady had three Chihauhaus and they all ran the course - rather slowly, but they all finished.

A really great set but I am loving the expression you've caught on the face of the Staffie!

#3 would have been great but the focus looks a bit off, tail looks in focus, When i shoot horse my 1D focus will keep up but the 10D i focus just infront of the jump at F4 and time my shoot you could try the same with the dogs

Re: K9 Agility trials

Let me tell you..........these buggers are fast!

They were quite literally a blur in my viewfinder. Even though I was shooting wide open in an effort to defocus the background the OFF bits are quite evident as you mention. I was thinking of the Equestrian shots others have shown here and how slow the horses are relative to these lightning quick dogs and how nice it would be to have more time to pan with the animal - with these dogs you have to pick your spot and hope you snap the shutter while they are somewhere in your depth of field. I was shooting at ISO 100 and next time will go to 200 or even 400.
Thanks for the comments.

Whilst I've not (yet!) had a go with dogs, I have done horses......... and dragonflies! I prefocus manually and then follow the subject until it hits the "mark" - works well with horses, less well with dragons (but the former tend to follow a path, the latter not always - plus a couple of inches out for them means totally OOF)
