Lets go racing (F1 style) - warning many pictures

The following are a few shots from the 600+ I took yesterday at the F1 testing in Silverstone. I had a great day there with Matt and Ian who we met up with on the day.

All shot on Canon 20D but with a combination of different lenses, the majority of which was Canon 70-200L with Kenko Pro300 converter, Canon 100-400L and a few with Matt’s semi portable bazooka (Sigma 800mm whats-it-mathingy-majig)

I learned a lot yesterday but mainly that I need a battery grip for the camera, F1 cars move a lot quicker than they look on TV and that I need to grow a by a foot (that’s a private joke)

I have tried to pick out a variation of cars/drivers that were testing but if you want a certain picture ask and I might have one amongst the many photos shot yesterday.

Anyway on with the pics..

As always there is a little more to shoot at an event like this..this little girl was sat there enjoying every minute.

And one for the boys

I will process some more today, these above have just had their levels adjusted and borders added, all done on the laptop so if they are not upto the usual standard ref stauration, brightness etc thats why.

Thanks for you comments, I had a great time and managed to improve as the day progressed. Some of my first attempts are truly awful

Cheers, yes I really like this border.

For Photoshop CS...

Edit>select all>stroke with black as the selected colour and a width of 1pix

deselect

Edit> canvas size usually I use about 20pix, make sure the centre box is ticked and the colour in this case will be white.

Edit>select all>stroke again with black but this time 2 pix as the width

Edit>canvas size and then about 100pix, again make sure you have white selected as the colour.

Finally if you want a black line around the outside to make it stand out on white backgrounds, do the edit >select all>stroke>1 pix using black.

Note during all the strike sections I usually select "inside" by ticking the relevant box.

This whole process can be done in just a few seconds once you get it of to a T or you can create your own action if you wish.
Hope that helps?

Yes it was a shame, if I am free from work in September I will definitely be there. We will need to be better organised for this one so that we don’t end up stood next to each other without knowing.

i think as a dry run the day was a success , as in you know what you are gona get next time allowing for the weather, the day was a great spectacle and i wasnt prepeared for the speed of the cars and the fantastic sound of the engines,

like you i got some bramers , but the eye and the hand got in the more i took, glad i took along my portable hard-drive to, as i soon ran out of space taking all my pix ( get it ..........MyPix  ) in Raw + Jpg ,

looking forward to September, and will keep an eye out for other ' free ' events

Some great shots there Steve. 8) I like that last shot enormously. It would be well worth getting rid of that out of focus geezer behind the girl I reckon. Don't you love the way long lenses throw the background out of focus?

You've done very well with these shots Steve, framing is great also.

I like what you've done with the 'Fiat 127' F1 in the last image.
