Re: Levis
Is this a selective mono job or were they grey Levis? It seems rather light and lacking in dynamic composition with the label right in the middle and most lines either horizontal or vertical. Clearly the DoF was as shallow as anything with stitches in 'dips' blurring off but that does give a bit more texture to the image. I just think it needs darkening down a touch but I would prefer the lines to be more diagonal for greater dynamism.
Although it is a bit light, you have held on to the lighting well in that it has not actually burnt out anywhere, the stitches are all clearly visible. Can I ask Garry, did you take this as a RAW or as a jpeg? Cheers, Rob

Re: Levis
Selective colouring, also I have found that it depends on peoples monitor as to how it appears, The print is spot on (depending on what you like) ive just had an order for this print on a large canvas for £350.00 so someone likes it.

Re: Levis
You're not wrong there Gary. If any of us could take the shots that sell 100% of the time and not the shots we like and therefore assume will sell, we'd become instant millionaires!
In my case I don't make my living from photography but I do supplement it. So i can afford to play and just get a few sales now and again. These go to pay for the lenses and things but at least it means I am not a drain on our household budget when I go after bargains on Ebay <g> |

Re: Levis
Thank you all for your input to this post, it really does make the point that as a photographer we see things differently to most people and to pay my bar bill(which is quite large) one has to take photographs in a different style. It took me years to understand this simple point so hopefully this post has helped someone.

Re: Levis
I think we (photographers) look at so many images that we can often overlook the simple image that appeals to the many (Just look at the prints in Ikea for gods sake). I agree that Gary's image is very simple however this is a lesson that soemtimes we need not make it too complicated.
Nice sale too mate! |
