Lily
I took this within the first few weeks of having the 350D. The hounds had been my main subject and I was looking for a slightly different viewpoint. More of an explanation why here.
![]() I'm big enough, and ugly enough, to cope with criticism, so fire away! ![]() |

Re: Lily
It is a different view, I like it, can't seem to find anything worng. I would say that you have some stand out shots if you have been shooting this angle. Welcome to the forums.

Re: Lily
Great alternative view - the more you try it the more sheer good fortune you'll get!

Re: Lily
I love the angle on this shot. This combined with the clear blue sky, the colour and texture of the bracken and of course the lovely Lily - I think it's a cracker

Re: Lily
Good picture and very good exposure to get the detail the white fur of the dog.

Re: Lily
Thank you all for the positive comments
![]() I think that in the perfect world Lily's face could be slightly crisper. Perhaps that could be done with some sharpening, I don't know. I've not really played with that aspect of post processing yet. (I do tend to be very critical of my photography!) Mebbe I should have started with one of my other pics as this is probably my best one so far. Quote:
Ali, she doesn't look quite so ASBO-hound there, does she? ![]()

Re: Lily
Iain, self critique is a good thing and sharpening her face a little would be very easy in photoshop, just a bit of unsharp mask would bring it out more to your liking. I've just had a go for you with just a very small amount.
![]() Hope I've added it correctly? Uploaded it in pimp photo gallery when I reloaded it and then copied link here, if not right can someone do it for me. |

Re: Lily
Looks much tighter/sharper, Sarah! Nice one!
No prob with the way you've uploaded the pic - most set up a Private Album (which has no public access) and post there - and then link to the thread (so it'll then be displayed). Pic then doesn't appear in the Public Gallery, nor is it directly associated with you |

At least I can take comfort in knowing that I had an idea of how it can be improved, if not the skillz! It is an area I knew I needed to look into, and you've confirmed that. What sort of settings did you use? |

Re: Lily
Very simple and minor, too much and it's overcooked, I used the same settings I use on most of my cycling shots to make them pop and it's unsharp mask with the sliders set at amount 100, radius 1 and threshold 0, which seems to give a subtle sharpening effect.

Re: Lily
Cheers, I will give that a whirl when I get home.
(And will hang fire on posting the other pic until I've tried playing with it!) |

Re: Lily
When you are doing a photo for the web, I always size the picture to about 6x4" at 300 DPI, then work on anything I need, ie sharpening and then resize for the web to 72 DPI & then generally 600pix on the long side which is the size for my website. I find if you do the sharpening and everything before, the effect is better. Don't know why, it's just from playing around I found that one out.
Better get on with my shots from last night now. |
