Loch Ness Sunset (Nearly)

I headed up to Loch Ness on Sunday - 360 mile round trip - for some sunset shots down the glen, I had it on good authority the weather would be nice. Sadly the BBC weather department appear to use pure guesswork when making assessments!

Left at 12pm. Got there about 4pm. Grumped at the weather and cursed the beeb.

Anyway, the rain sort of calmed a bit so I headed along Dores Beach.

Anyway, these are some of the shots I'm quite happy with - weather considering.

#1 Driftwood

#2 Loch Ness

#3 Loch Ness - Portrait

#4 Driftwood

4th one is my personal favourite.

Hung around till about 6pm then headed back home again. Got back about 9:30pm. Long drive let me tell ya!

wow #1 , #2 , #4 very well composed shot, good work, that shot there to me was worth the drive.

what I like about #3 is the calm nostalgic feeling you get as you look at it..

Re: Loch Ness Sunset (Nearly)

These are seriously lovely shots OP

I'd crop some sky off all of them except #4 which I'd crop the bottom to remove the OOF portion of FG.

Care to share the exif data?

Re: Loch Ness Sunset (Nearly)

Can't decide - I like them all but #4 is probably my favourite. Very evocative of a Scottish Loch - just needs Nessie cloning in.

Metcheck.com - Global Weather Forecasts - Weather Feeds - Live Data - Long Range Weather Forecasts is usually pretty accurate. I like the Beeb website but their weather forecasts are useless.

My DNS server had cached your old IP. Had to kick it.

Yeah I was in two minds about this myself. Decided just to leave it as is

It's all in the files except #4. Dunno where that's gone. Ah I remember. It's an HDR. It's 3 exposures blended with photomatrix then saved as an .HDR file, opened in PS then converted to 16bit which then allows you to do the tone mapping - the photomatrix tone mapping can be a bit harsh imo.

12mm
ISO200
F/11

Exposure 1 - 0.3s
Exposure 2 - 1/10s
Exposure 3 - 1.5s

Used auto bracketing - 2 stops

They're all lovely but I agree with the consensus 1 & 4 are the best. These are shots I would certainly be happy to have on my wall.

cheers
