London 08/10/05 - testing 16-35mm f2.8L

I'm gonna write a separate thread on how I found the lens itself. This thread's just for the pics. So without further ado....

Saw these two within 10 seconds of taking the camera out the bag. Light was good (sun was behind me) but somehow it just looks like a snapshot anyone might take of their mates. Except it's a couple of homeless guys instead of my mates. Not really that happy with it but it was my only homeless shot of the day.

Like the idea of this shot but the processing hasn't given it much impact. I found it hard to give it a snap without losing detail.

This guy stands at Oxford Circus preaching to people about how evil shopping is. He's been there years. I'm more fond of this shot, although I should probably have spent a bit longer and tried to get a better facial expression.

Couple of protesters outside parliament. Not much to say except I asked them if I could take a photo and they said yes. Had to crouch in the road for this one so it was a bit hurried. There are lots of protesters on that bit of the square but I chose these guys because their banners are kinda nondescript. despite the big lettering I don't really know what they're protesting against, except killing kids.

This is part of a WWII memorial statue opposite the London Eye, on the other side of the river. There's lots of similar stuff but I liked these pilots. Not sure how I feel about the very narrow DOF on this one. It's just the nose that's not quite right.

This is actually part of a Vue cinema in Croydon and was taken tonight. I came out and saw the evening light was good so I shot it. Nothing special but it came out ok, despite not having a polariser on.

all good shots. i really like the one of the protesters. i think its because it seems more spontaneous...like they're unaware of you, also has good depth of field.

Interview with the "winner or sinner" guy (pics links seem to be broken) :http://www.b3ta.com/interview/winnerorsinner/

I like the shot - it's a good one as he's animated and doesn't look posed. I think the DoF is fine on the memorial - cropping the top of head forces attention onto the eyes which are in focus. I like the colours on the Vue - is that a sensor splodge already though on the left hand side? Maybe PS lens distort tool might be able to straighten the central tower.

Bah. Why couldn't you keep your mouth shut. Now I'm going to be looking for that all the time. In fairness, though, I did ramp most of the levels quite a way for that shot so maybe that brought it out more than usual.
